Campion II's remain unbeaten after winning their fourth consecutive match with a comprehensive victory at Harlow. We are now top of the table on points difference over Rochford who are and next up at Cottons Park this weekend.
First appearances of the season for centre Matt Buchan, flanker George Rogers and replacement scrum half Russell Frost saw the two's field their 39th player of the season. The absence of three of our top forward players so far this season in Will Trapp, Tom Ward and Pat Ronayne did little to disrupt the pack who again dominated the opposition and laid the platform for the backs to perform. Despite ten tries, only four of which were converted, Campion were again guilty of butchering try scoring opportunities week in week out. We need to be far more clinical against a top team like Rochford if we want to extend our winning run.
MOM this week went to powerhouse Sam Lidlow who showed his raw strength in each of his 3 tries. Matt Buchan, who could have had a hat trick if he wore the right boots was also prominent on his return. George Rogers was dominant in the loose, providing the biggest number of assists and a try of his own. Irish exile Danny Ryan slotted in very well at full back beating a number of defenders and unlucky to not get his first try for the Red and Blacks.
With good weather expected Campion play host to two tough games at Cottons Park this week. The 1s will be playing Chelmsford and the 2s playing Rochford. Both visiting teams have had good starts to the season sitting at the top of their respective tables.
Please come down and watch what are sure to be two very competitive games, all your support is appreciated.
